What are the best social media monitoring tools?
Over the years I've used a few that I really like. For value for money and epic features, these are the platforms I recommend: Mention, Brand24 and Meltwater. They are all great for different stages of the business. Meltwater has a lot of other features in addition to monitoring.
Why use social media monitoring tools?
For me the answer is simple - customer service is marketing. Some of the best brands I've seen have their eyes everywhere across all channels, ensuring they keep on top of what people say, especially when it comes to complaints, negative reviews or even something positive. The quicker you get on top of what people say (and whether or not choose to reply), goes a long way when it comes to iterative feedback cycles.
Do these tools mentioned help with competitor research?
Absolutely they do, which is another core reason why I recommend any startup (especially if growing fast) or any mid-large organisation to invest in one of these tools. They're often really beneficial to reverse-engineer social and marketing strategies that can help generate new ideas for your business.
